My First Post
I am a long-time Aurora resident, and I was first elected to Council on my third try in 1967. This will be my second consecutive term serving as a councillor. My previous history included nine terms on the council serving as Mayor, Councillor, Reeve, County Councillor and Regional Councillor. It adds up to a substantial body of knowledge and experience, and from that perspective, it is my intention to use this medium to keep you informed of ongoing events in Aurora council. I am very much a neophyte when it comes to computers, but I'm eager to use this new technology. Please check back periodically to see what's happening.
The 2006 council-elect is different. There were twenty candidates, 14 men, 6 women. The women were successful. It has been proven that good women can get elected on the basis of credibility, a solid platform and hard foot-slogging.
People tend to bemoan the lack of interest in municipal politics but we had three mayoral candidates and 20 council candidates, from various backgrounds, various areas and various interest groups in town. That is not a lack of interest.
Historically, Aurora has always had a very robust political culture and I am proud to be a part of it.
